Military Science (MS)

Increase self-confidence through team study and activities in physical fitness, land navigation, first aid, and basic drill. Learn fundamental concepts of leadership in both classroom and outdoor laboratory environments. (CR: MS 101l)

Learn and practice basic soldier skills and field craft. Build self-confidence and team building ledership skills through activities in drill, rappelling and basic marksmanship that can be applied throughout life.

Introduction to individual and team military tatics in squad operations. Includes radio communications, safety assessments, movement techniques, planning for safety/ security, training management, and methods of preoperational checks.

Practice and refine the basic soldier skills and field craft learned in MS101L/102L, Build self confidence and teambuilding skills through leadership opportunities supervising MS101L/102L cadets, learned in MS101L/102L. Build self-confidence and team building skills through leadership opportunities supervising MS101L/MS102L cadets.

A physical training program consisting of Army conditioning drills, guerrilla exercises, and grass drills. (repeatable up to 4 hours)

Pre-req: MS 301.

Review the evolution of warfare, military theory and the military profession, with particular emphasis on the place of military institutions in society, as to develop a sense of historical awareness.

Uses small unit defensive tactics and opportunities to plan and conduct training. Practical opportunities to lead small groups, receive personal assessments/encouragement, and lead in situations of increasing complexity.

Pre-req: MS 202 or MS 251.

Students develop, practice and refine leadership skills by serving and being evaluated in a variety of leadership positions. Students are responsible for the planning, coordination, execution and evaluation of training.

Analyze tasks; prepare written/oral guidance delegate, and supervise. Plan for and adapt to the unexpected under stress. Examine and apply lessons from leadership case studies.

Pre-req: MS 301 with a minimum grade of D and MS 301L with a minimum grade of D.

A five-week camp at an active arem post; it is highly structured and demanding, stressing leadership at small unit levels under varing, challenging conditions. Individual leadership eveluated throughout camp. (PR: MS 302)

Articulate goals, plan, conduct, and evaluate activities of the ROTC cadet organization. Assess organizational cohesion and develop improvement strategies. Develop confidence in leadership skills and manage resources.

Identify/resolve ethical dilemmas. Refine counseling/ motivating techniques. Examine aspects of tadition and law as relating to an Army officer. Prepare for a future as a successful Army lieutenant.

Pre-req: MS 401 with a minimum grade of D.
